Memories of EMHE Space Coast Volume 2

Today we continue with our stories from those who made it possible. To submit your story, post it on facebook or email admin@extrememakeoverspacecoast.com

Being able to help with the Hurston’s home was such a privilege and joy! We worked on what we have a passion for…the veggie garden, fruit trees and potted trees for the house and porch. The best part was rubbing elbows with the real stars, the many professionals in the county and state who donated their time and materials for this very worthwhile project. Everyone seemed so passionate about what they were doing! During a planning meeting with Emil and his crew, we met Dave, the chicken coop creator. His enthusiasm was so contagious and, because he is a friend of the Hurston’s, was able to assure us that they would be wonderful stewards of this beautiful home. We are already seeing that this is the case! We wish the Hurston’s all the best for their family and their ministry.

I am still so touched by the opportunity I was given to help with this very deserving family – I met some wonderful new friends – Pat, Luis, Laura, Dana, Robert, so many to name but I remember all of them dear to my heart. I have watched this show and always said that I would LOVE to be able to have a job that is that rewarding and do what TY and all the designers do but the ones that seem to be the forgotten heros are the ones behind the scenes – the crew, bus drivers, planners, etc. – you guys made this “organized chaos” flow smoothly with all of the 500+ volunteers that were there pouring their heart out and I will cherish these memories forever – thanks for the wonderful oppotunity to be a part of this. God Bless!!

My fondest memory was seeing the sense of teamwork and committment on everyone’s face when there was t-minus 3 hour til reveal time. No one got upset but yet pulled together emotionally and did a fabulous job. This was headed by Lifestyle Homes great team and was carried on to the workers on site. Great leadership produced a great team.

My fondest memory was an opportunity to learn how a “Blitz Build” works, which is something I wanted to see/be a part of since I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity every weekend. Jake L. from Lifestyle Homes did a great job leading us all in doing something good for a family that is so involved with helping others. Of course meeting Michael before moving in the furniture was awesome too. Thanks again to LifeStyle Homes and EMHE for the experience of a lifetime!

Clearly you can see just how happy everyone is to have participated in the build, however, we wanted to hear from people who were actually on the ground first-hand! Over the next few weeks leading up to the show’s airdate (2/13/11) we will be featuring a few stories each day from folks who have submitted them on our Facebook wall. If you want your story up here, make sure you respond to the post, or email your fondest memories to admin@extrememakeoverspacecoast.com (please keep responses to 200 words or less).

Being able to work in the most EXTREME environment Imaginable in the construction field and knowing I work for a company that had the sub base to pull it off and build this Extreme home in 106 Hrs. It was nerve racking at time but the most enjoyable project i have ever taken part in and I will never forget it. And I finally own a Hammer I will never lose.

My wife and I volunteered on Monday and my neighbor, Pat and I volunteered again on Thursday. My fondest memory, may sound corny, but I am retired Army and kind of detail oriented and much more disciplined than most…so I was amazed at how organized the event was managed. Hats off to Lifestyle homes cause I know it all starts at the top. Now, some of you may think differently, but from a very careful eye, you guys amazed me how this puzzle was created. Second, I was so blessed to have met so many nice people who also volunteered. The spirit of helpfulness in the community, was very refreshing. We have a great bunch of people who make up our community. God Bless you all from the servers in the food tent, to the ones handing out water, to the ditch diggers, sod layers and those skilled folk who ensured the success of this wonderful community event. As was stated on the “A Team” I love it when a plan comes together!!! Great Job!!

As a general Contractor myself in Brevard County being chosen to be a lead and be able bring my crew to work side by side with so many different Contractors from around the County and having never worked with them before this build, I was amazed that so many trades could work side by side and not hear the traditional foul language that you typically hear on a job site and that the tradesmen and volunteers never lost there tempers. The challenge of building the house in 106 hours was not the only challenge that needed to be met. Brevard County did as great job working together for a great cause.
